The desire to sit on one’s doorstep and watch the world go by. What drives one to perch themselves upon the unforgiving terrazzo for hours on end in one’s own company?

The answer may lie in the vibration of ‘las calles’. Some towns just call you out. The street is a second home where sitting and watching the world pass by, is not just a meditation but also an invitation. It’s a wave or a nod, or a silent recognition that we are part of the same place.

Maybe, one of the most beautiful things one can do, is become a part of the makeup of a place. A part of the furniture. And one day, when you’re not sitting on that doorstep, people will miss that nod or silent wave or smile.

More than once this piece has coaxed me out of house and out into my second home.
